Mechanix Original Gloves

Normally Mechanix is making gloves for all kinds of working men and women.

But they are not unknown to the professionals of Law Enforcement ort he Military.

The „Original-Glove“ is mother of all Mechanix gloves and he is standing out cause they are light weight, durable, comfortable and you can still feel very good with your fingertips.

The outside of the „OG“ is made out of a double layer of Spandex. On the outside of the fingertips you have also a double layer but of Clarion protective material. The same material is covering the palms. Clarion is an ultra thin polyethylene fiber which is taking care of a good grip, durability and a snug fit. The palms made out of Clarion feel very soft like suede leather. Between the fingers you will find Lycra material which helps the glove to „breath“. The cuffs are wide enough and they don’t cut in even when it may looks like it on the photos.

For me it’s important, that a Military or Law Enforcement glove will function perfect when using firearms. I had no problem shooting a variety of different pistols and rifles with the „OG“. May be it’s not the best idea to wear them for a long rang shot at 300m. But from 0-50 meters I had not problems to hit what I was aiming for.

Don’t forget that shooting, especially with handguns, is a little different then with bare hands. So train with gloves on too.

Also the gun handling was not a problem at all. Loading, decoking, dry-fire and failure-drills were no problem. For the mag-change you have to twist the gun a little more in your hand to reach and activate the mag-catch properly. They are a little more beefy the bare hands but you will need that for durability. I ran over an obstacle course with them. They gave good grip, no splinters and scratches. Another good thing is, that you can throw them into the drum at 86F. (30C.).

Even since the „Original Glove“ is a little beefy for its wearers protection, you will not lose to much of the feeling in your fingers. I played around with them to see what is a go and a no-go. Like you can see it’s no problem to fill mags with them. Button/unbutton pants, using small screwdrivers, making and eating MRE´s, typing a part of this review and taking some of the photos you see were absolutely no problem. I could even pick up a 1-cent coin from a slick tile.

Driving a car, riding a motorcycle, using mace, cuffs, the PR24 and the radio was fine. Just to activate the „stop-look“ on the cuffs was a little hard.

Grabbing persons and there clothing, drawing/reholstering and to get into and out of body armor was very easy. For me the „OG“ seams to be a good all-round glove. I like the comfort and the snug fit. Tight, but not to tight. There are no wrinkles on the palm that may disturb the grip on a gun. One thing that really kicked my nerves on several other tight fitting gloves were the seams inside the fingers. But here on the „Oh-geez“ you don’t have to deal with that.

In my opinion the Original Glove is a good, light, all-purpose glove for military and police work. He will also work fine as a pure shooting glove. But for riot-service or the breacher I would recommend a glove with more protection.

The Mecahnix Original Glove can be bought in two „tactical“ colors. One is „covert“ like the one on my photos. Black without the white printing on it and „camo“ which is like a brownish woodland.
